For the past decade, I’ve been drawn to work that sits at the heart of social justice, journalism and democracy—supporting it as a strategic storyteller, adviser, and facilitator.
My path into this work was shaped by a background in international law and journalism, but more than anything, by a curiosity about power, narratives, and how (social) change transforms. I’ve spent most of this time working with nonprofit organizations and philanthropic partners, helping to make complex ideas clearer, stories more compelling, and strategies more grounded. Below are some glimpses of the people and organizations I’ve had the privilege to work with.
Besides this work, I teach in "law, justice and morality”, the “fingerprints of colonialism” at the University of Amsterdam’s PPLE college.
Event moderation
CARE Belgium:
“Climate Change is Sexist”
I hosted two all-female panels convened by CARE Belgium, exploring how climate change and sexism intersect, with a powerful lineup of speakers ranging from a former minister to professors and NGO practitioners, all bringing depth and energy to the conversation.
Limelight Foundation: exchanges in journalism
During the Limelight Foundation’s annual gatherings in 2023 and 2024, I hosted conversations with three of their inspiring grantees each year—bringing their stories to the forefront and encouraging open, thoughtful exchange.
Conversation partners included
1) Bellingcat, the renowned global open source research and journalism collective;
2) Forbidden Stories, an impressive initiative to ensure the survival of the story after the journalist has been killed (“If a journalist falls, others rise and collective continue their work”), and;
3) Bits of Freedom, a Dutch organization advocating for internet freedom and keeping big tech’s powers in check.
Impact storytelling
Culture of Solidarity Fund
For the European Cultural Foundation, I partnered with Nadja Groot to reflect on five years of the Culture of Solidarity Fund. As part of this, I created five “change story” portraits—bringing to life the human side of the fund’s impact and feeding into a broader evaluation and strategic advice.
One of these stories spotlighted the inspiring Fashion Commons movement, sparked by Fashion Act Now.
Humanity in Action
I partnered with Nadja Groot to evaluate and tell the impact story of the first cohort of Humanity in Action’s Landecker Democracy Fellowship. I analyzed 26 projects—many focused on engaging marginalized communities—helping to shape a broader impact report and inform future strategy.
Here to Support
Together with and for the Here to Support Foundation I investigated the legal and actual protection of young Eritrean asylum seekers — and their rights under the so-called EU Dublin Regulation.
Journalist and strategic advise
National ThinkTank
For three years in a row, I worked with participants of the annual Dutch National ThinkTank, helping them sharpen their media strategies—from crafting compelling pitches to writing clear, journalist-ready stories.
Democracy and Media Foundation
I’ve partnered with the Democracy and Media Foundation on a range of projects over the years—from coordinating a full application round with their team to mapping and providing advise on how to strengthen the Dutch investigative journalism landscape. For this so-called “field scan” I drew on 20 in-depth conversations with key stakeholders.
Limelight Foundation
Limelight Foundation is Europe’s leading journalism fund, strengthening the continent’s information infrastructure. I’ve worked with Limelight to thoroughly assess grant applications and advise on grantee partnerships across Europe.
Resilient Democracy Foundation
In its first eight months, I worked closely with the Dutch Resilient Democracy Foundation to help shape its direction—offering strategic advice and diving into an in-depth exploration of social movements and civic action. Along the way, I spoke with around 20 key people in the field to ground the work in lived realities.
